Recertification Update - Fall 2026

by Melissa Lassen BSN, RN, NCSN

Did you know that you can earn recertification credits through professional activities that do not involve traditional continuing education?

Professional activities can earn NCSN recertification credits beyond traditional continuing education (CE). Eligible activities include:

  • NBCSN Activities: Problem Item Analysis calls, Item Review, Exam Review, and Item-Writing Workshops.
  • Leadership: Serving as an officer or director of a state or national school nurse organization, an NBCSN Audit Committee member, or an NBCSN Liaison.
  • Professional Membership: NASN membership.
  • Precepting: Supervising student nurses in a school health setting.
  • Presentations: Presenting unique professional education topics through CE programs or academic presentations.
  • Publications: Publishing original articles in professional journals, peer reviewing professional journals or school nurse-related texts, serving on journal editorial boards, and authoring or editing chapters in school nurse-related texts.

Each category has specific credit limits and documentation requirements. Review the NBCSN Recertification Handbook (Specifically the Appendix) to ensure your activities meet eligibility criteria before submitting them.
