Many nursing specialty areas have organizations that provide certification to individual practitioners, indicating that they have met standards indicating a specialized body of knowledge, skills and experience.
Eligibility
The NCSN credential reflects a high level of competence and professionalism, and the registered nurse must demonstrate a commensurate education, clinical practice experience, and knowledge.

Recertification
NCSNs are always current in their practice, methodologies, and medications. They are required to renew their credential every five years to establish their expertise.
Emeritus
The NCSN Emeritus Credential (NCSN-E) recognizes the service of retired NCSNs. If you are an NCSN and you are retiring from nursing, you can retain the NCSN-Emeritus credential.
